I suppose Sono in ritardo is what the English-speaking Internet would define a lifestyle blog. I am not sure I have a lifestyle glamorous enough to have a lifestyle blog. Actually, I am not even sure I have a lifestyle. Anyway, here I share fashion and other facts that capture my curiosity, together with stories about my life that for some reason I think you are terribly interested in knowing. Sono in ritardo is how I often feel about the world; I feel I am always a little bit behind the news, trends, thoughts and life in general. Maybe this is how everyone feels, but to me it seemed a very good name for this blog.

Sono in ritardo is a blog about frivolities, sometimes serious, more often not. Because when you’ve got a PhD you feel you can say without irony that your shoes obsession is merely an “intellectual curiosity”. In the post-post era, I take the often deprecated  anything goes, not as a sad sign of the ruling relativism, but as a great opportunity to finally unleash my most light-hearted interests.

My name is Federica, I am a thirty years old procrastinator with ridiculously short-sighted eyes. I am a messy perfectionist; I read a lot, don’t move enough and I definitely eat too much. I live in England with the future Mr. Sonoinritardo. I never cease to be amazed by the British skill to dress in the most appalling ways (not to mention weather-inappropriate). I fight for the dignity of curly and fizzy hair and for the abolition of nude-coloured stockings.

I dismiss centuries of feminism by thinking that I would love to be allowed to dress, paint my face and do my hair like Betty Draper (the skinny one, obviously! I suppose her waistline would help). Because of fate’s twisted sense of humour (or maybe because of a feminists’ law of retaliation) in the morning I almost always end up dressed as a lesbian lumberjack. It doesn’t help that I suffer from a severe case of split wardrobe: my coolest outfits are in Italy and the strictly functional ones (aaaahhh! fail!) are here in England (to be clear, I am talking Timberland boots and a puffer jacket).

My interests are Italian politics, fashion and costume history, Russia and Eastern Europe, food, Mad Men, Harry Potter, degregorideandrèguccini, lick clean the cake bowl with my finger, Umberto Eco’s writing, plum colour, penpencilsnotebooks and all those things you don’t need anymore when you are 30, the smell of new books, photographs, the sound of the double bass, vintage clothing, red nail polish, ethnic jewelery, TV series.

I am addicted to: carbs (the hard-core stuff: bread, pasta and pizza), always wearing a watch, liquorice and Friends.

I hate: caramel, puff pastry, nude stockings, people with no sense of humour.

I wish: I was one of those girls who can wear heels nonchalantly; my body was more toned, or, if that really is not gonna happen, I can do with a pair of Louboutin and those two or three indispensable Hermès bags.

I read: about politics, current affairs, fashion, tv, cinema and food on few newspaper, some weekly magazines and a whole lot of websites (and waaaay too many blogs). And then novels novels novels and some history.

I think: that anything that catches my curiosity is worth reading, studying and discussing (even if it’s 100% silica powder). I think that food, family and friends make everything better. I think that food tastes better when eaten straight from the serving dish.  I think that life is all about story-telling and that it is up to us to tell a good story.
